Presenter: Katherine Gomez, PhD

Presenter Bio: Katherine C. Gomez, PhD (she/her) serves as the Director of Human Trafficking Intervention for the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice (FDJJ). She has served Florida since 2006 as a probation officer, senior officer, trainer, researcher, and executive administrator. She specializes in working with youth who have experienced human trafficking, sexually marginalized youth, youth who have committed sexually-related offenses, and high-profile interdisciplinary cases. She holds a PhD in Public Affairs from the University of Central Florida, MA in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of South Florida, and a BA in Sociology from the University of Florida.

Training Objectives:

  • Upon completion of this educational activity, learners should be better able to define federal and state definitions of human trafficking.
  • Upon completion of this educational activity, learners should be better able to identify the three elements of trafficking.
  • Upon completion of this educational activity, learners should be better able to identify common indicators that an individual has been trafficked, including risk factors that predispose an individual to become involved in trafficking.
  • Upon completion of this educational activity, learners should be better able to describe unique characteristics of individuals who have committed sex trafficking and who are ordered to register as sexual offenders.
